A Seminar on Talking to Children about Adoption
This seminar will have two components:
- Empowering children (adoptees) to answer questions about adoption
- Talking to non-adopted children about adoption
Almost all children who were adopted get asked questions about their adoption. This seminar will address ways to empower adopted children when responding to questions and comments about adoption. You will learn how to help your child answer these questions.
As well, the issue of talking to the children of family and friends, including neighbours and classmates, will also be addressed. In this seminar you will learn how to respond to questions from children, incorporating the following concepts:
★ Positive use of adoption language
★ Families are formed in different ways
★ Children are adopted in many different ways
★ Possible reasons for adoption
★ Privacy versus secrecy of adoption details
★ Adoption does not define who you are as a person
★ Adoption is forever
